Version 4.1 Desktop & SQL Workstation Recommendations
The following is the recommendation of RAM Software Systems, Inc. to supplement the above requirements.
We suggest the fastest and latest in hardware for those services averaging more than 10,000 call/trips per year.
- Intel® CoreTM 2 Duo based processor or faster.
- Windows XP Professional® with Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista Business
- 16x PCI Express Video Card with at least 256MB dedicated memory.
- 4GB of RAM(32Bit) or 8GB of RAM (64-Bit).
- 7200RPM SATA II hard drive with at least 5GB of free hard drive space.
- Backup software with SQL Database and open file backup capability to external hard drives or tape devices.
- Anti-virus, Anti-Spyware, and Firewall software (non-network PC).
- UPS Battery backup with a 10 minute runtime capability at full load.
Network Server Minimum Specification
- Gigabit Network
- Intel® Xeon® based processor
- 2GB of RAM
NOTE:The SQL Express version runs best on a dedicated server (not a peer-to-peer). We recommend no more than five users for a peer-to-peer configuration.
Network Server Recommended Specification
- Dual Intel® Xeon® processors or faster.
- Gigabit Network
- Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 2
- 4GB of RAM or 8GB RAM for 64-Bit Versions of Windows
- 15,000 RPM SCSI or SAS hard drives in RAID 1 or 5 configurations
- SQL Server 2005 Standard or Enterprise with Service Pack 2 (Enterprise Version of AIM System only)
- Backup software with SQL Database and open file backup capability.
- AntiVirus and Anti-Spyware software for networks.
- UPS Battery Backup with a 30 minute runtime capability at full load and automatic shutdown ability.
Laptop/Tablet Specification
- Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 for laptops.
- Windows Touchscreen or Dual Touch with digitizer
- Intel® Pentium® 4 class or later processor
- 1GB of RAM – 2GB of RAM Recommended
- 5GB of free hard drive space
- Docking station or wired network card for data transfer connectivity
Note: Slate or Convertible Tablet PC’s can be used, but a keyboard is recommended.
Infrared ports and wireless network cards can be used for data transfer operations but are not recommended.
Defib/Monitor and Interface
- OS: Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows Vista Business SP2.
- CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo/Core 2 Duo Mobile or higher.
- RAM Memory: 2GB.
- Free Hard Drive Space: 8GB for databases + whatever the installed RAM Amount is. (I.e. 2GB Ram Installed + 8GB for databases will = 10GB of free Hard drive space required.)
Note: that Physio-Control Inc. does not support the Windows 7 Operating System. Contact both Physio-Control, Inc and RAM Software Systems about the use of the Defib/Monitor and/or Interface on your machines.
Printer Specifications
We require the use of laser printers with our products. We further recommend the use of a drawer-fed laser printer, which
feeds the paper from a drawer, as opposed to a vertical top feed bin. We highly recommend Hewlett Packard LaserJet Printers.
Laser printers give a higher quality output and are generally faster than most dot matrix printers are. This is especially
true for the printing of billing forms, which are pre-aligned for HP LaserJet printers.
SQL Specifications
RAM Software Systems does not provide system hardware or network installation and support. We highly recommend the use of a
Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE) to assist with the installation, configuration, and testing of all hardware and network
software including the SQL database. The Aim System should only be installed on Express, Standard, or Enterprise versions of SQL Server
The AIM System
There are two versions of The AIM System the Desktop Version and the Enterprise Version. The Desktop Version is designed to run on
SQL Server Express and is designed for small businesses with up to five concurrent users and databases that are up to 4-gigabytes in size.
The Enterprise Version is designed to run on the full version of SQL Server with unlimited concurrent users and database size.
A SQL based database server has advantages over traditional LAN based systems through its design as a "fault tolerant" system - all reading
and writing of data files occurs on the server under controlled conditions. Having an SQL database also optimizes performance among users so
they can experience uniform high-speed performance - no more system slowdowns at the end of reporting periods.
The AIM System utilizes Microsoft's SQL Server database format to insure that your investment in The AIM System is for the long term.
- Desktop Version
The Desktop Version is designed for SQL Server Express and SQL Express is installed by the installation so, a pre installation of
SQL Express is not needed. SQL Express is designed for small businesses that desire the stability and speed of an SQL database without
incurring the expense of supporting a full SQL Server environment.
The AIM System – Desktop Version has the same look, ease of use, and number of modules as the Enterprise Version, so a company can
seamlessly transition from one to the other without the need for retraining.
- Enterprise Version
The Enterprise Version includes all the benefits of the SQL Express version but is designed for medium to large
sized businesses. It has the ability to accommodate hundreds of simultaneous users. There is also no built-in limit
to the size of your database – it is only limited by the size of your server's hard disks, eliminating the concern
to archive excessive records.
The use of SQL Server Standard or Enterprise provides greater flexibility with database backups, security, business
intelligence, and performance optimizations.
ALERT: If you have enabled Windows Firewall or another 3rd party firewall, contact your IT administrator
for proper configuration to enable incoming network connections.
NOTE:Please consult your AIM System Salesman or System Administrator to confirm the optimal configuration to suit your specific needs. The AIM System is a Windows based system and is not to be used with Linux, Unix, or Apple based systems.
